One of the Greatest Christian Classics Transformed.
As some of you know, I have been working on publishing the Christian classic book “The Promised Gift”. It was originally published by George Asbury McLaughlin in 1906. I came across it a year ago and was deeply moved at the anointed words. It was wonderfully amazing that this book, written 113 years ago, was so pertinent to today’s world. I quickly realized how few copies are left in circulation, and it became apparent that it’s in danger of disappearing for good. This little book made a huge impact on my life, and I knew others would love it as well. So, from some strong prompting of the Holy Spirit, or as G.A. McLaughlin so eloquently puts it “a great soul pressure”, I began the journey of updating his beloved writing into digital format. Now it is available for all to enjoy. Join me in the resurgence of this wonderful classic. Please help keep the book alive by purchasing a copy and leaving a 5-star review. Thank you for your support! It is available on Amazon. About the Book:
Step back in history as you become captivated by the teachings of the great Reverend G. A. McLaughlin. First published in 1906, The Promised Gift was written during the time of the Third Great Awakening and the Azusa Street Revival. McLaughlin’s work was birthed out of a passion and a desire for others to experience a more intimate relationship with the Holy Spirit. He writes the instructional roadmap to make it possible for us to live a holy life and know the blessed Savior on a deeper level.
Beautifully restored while being careful to preserve the integrity of this beloved classic.
One of the most powerful Christian classics has been brought into the digital age in this newly updated Kindle version. Original content includes details about the author and beautiful artwork. No collection would be complete without this timeless edition.
Excerpts from the author:
“Holy living is what the world is most in need of at this time. We have seen an ordinary kerosene lamp on the headlight of a locomotive send its rays hundreds of yards ahead illuminating the pathway. The secret of its power was the reflector behind it.”
“Every Christian needs this Gift…to enable him to live aright and to give unction to his testimony, as much as the disciples needed it at Pentecost.”
“He has felt a great soul pressure as he has meditated on this theme, which he has been unable to resist. Consequently, another volume has been issued when he had fully resolved to quit the business of writing books.
The favor that his other little books on devotion have met and the souls who have testified to spiritual uplifting through these books, has given him the confidence to try it again.”
McLaughlin authored many other works including:
Inbred Sin, Old Wine in New Bottles, A Living Sacrifice, A Clean Heart, Saved and Kept, The Vine and the Branches, Commentary on St. Luke, Commentary on St. John, Commentary on the Gospel According to Saint Matthew, Commentary on the Epistle of Paul to the Romans, Commentary on the Acts of the Apostles, Songs of Praise and Salvation, Songs of Redemptions, and Good News in Song.
The Promised Gift is available in Paperback and Kindle Edition.
About the Author
Rev. George Asbury McLaughlin was born on October 13, 1851 in New Hampshire. He was a Methodist pastor, evangelist, editor, author and songwriter. He ministered in Massachusetts and New Hampshire until 1892 when he moved to Evanston, Illinois to continue his work as an editor for the Christian Witness Company in Chicago. His works include: Inbred Sin, Old Wine in New Bottles, A Living Sacrifice, A Clean Heart, Saved and Kept, The Vine and the Branches, Commentary on St. Luke, Commentary on St. John, Commentary on the Gospel According to Saint Matthew, Commentary on the Epistle of Paul to the Romans, Commentary on the Acts of the Apostles, Songs of Praise and Salvation, Songs of Redemptions, Good News in Song.
His wife, Mary Ella Henshaw, partnered with him in ministry, holding weekly Holiness meetings in their home for eighteen years. She also worked for the Christian Witness Company as an office manager. At Mary’s passing in 1910, McLaughlin honored her by writing a biography about her life entitled, The Beauty of Holiness, As Exemplified in the Life of Mrs. Mary McLaughlin. In it, he penned this tribute, “God sets such saints in every generation as street lights to guide us home to heaven…It is proved in this book that a holy life is possible in this sinful world.”
McLaughlin moved to Southern California in 1918. While there he taught at the Training School for Christian Workers and at California Bible College. He died in the Long Beach earthquake on March 10, 1933, in Los Angeles California. His legacy continues through the many lives he touched during his time on earth and in his Holy Spirit inspired music and writings.
