My Essential Oil Daily Routine
- I begin my day with using a drop of Bergamot EO, and a drop of Clary Sage EO on my wrists.
Clary Sage is not my favorite smelling essential oil, but I love its positive effect on my moods. It is also great to use during ones menstrual cycle. Just apply to your tummy for a soothing massage.
Bergamot has a wonderful citrusy aroma that combines well with Clary Sage. Bergamot EO is amazing for helping with anxiety and depression. It has the unique ability to create both feelings of calm and joy.
Want to know more about how essential oils can have a positive effect on your mood?
- For an immune system boost, I use a drop of Lemon EO and a drop of Melaleuca EO on the bottom of my feet.
Lemon is an antiviral and antifungal oil. Melaleuca is an antifungal oil, as well as an antibacterial oil. Together they’re even more effective in warding off those pesky germs.
- I add a drop of Lemon EO to my water bottle every morning. (Make sure to use a glass water bottle when using essential oils. The oils can erode plastic.)
Lemon EO is invigorating, and a natural antidepressant. It has been used to lower blood pressure, get rid of heartburn, fight infections, promote clarity of thought, and improve memory.
And it makes my water more appealing. I’ve noticed I drink more water when I add a little Lemon EO.
- I have a small bottle of equal parts, Frankincense EO, Rosemary EO and Peppermint When my anxiety starts to get the better of me, I take out the bottle, and apply a drop to the back of my neck, and to the inside of my wrists.
I then take a few deep breaths and inhale the minty aroma, and my anxiousness disappears.
Here are 5 of my favorite essential oils I always have on hand.
- Before I go to bed, I put 1 drop of Ylang Ylang EO, and 2 drops of Lavender EO in my diffuser. The combination helps me drift off to sleep quickly, and stay asleep through the night.
This is my favorite diffuser. It has several different settings, lights that can be turned on or off while it’s running. And the best thing about it, it holds enough water so that it can run all night. No more getting up in the middle of the night to refill the diffuser. I love it.
These are my favorites, and I have discovered, through much research and trial and error, that these work best with my body chemistry. If these oils and blends don’t work for you, try not to get discouraged. We are all made wonderfully different. You just need to find which ones will work best for you.
I like to buy blended oils. They can be more cost effective. For example, I love the results I can achieve with Melissa EO for my moods, but because it is one of the most expensive essential oils, I can’t afford to buy it on a regular basis. So I purchase a blend that includes Melissa, Hawaiian Sandalwood and a few other essential oils known for lifting moods. It’s also comforting to know they have done their research, and I can rest assured that the oils will complement each other well.
One note of caution, when purchasing essential oils, I like to make sure the oils haven’t been diluted with a carrier oil. Some like the oils diluted, especially those who have skin sensitivities, but I prefer to add the carrier oil myself if I think it is necessary. Carrier oils don’t cost much. I find it’s cheaper to buy the carrier oil separately.
When choosing essential oils, it is important to be picky about which brand you use. Only use essential oils that can pass the test on quality. There are many products claiming to be pure essential oils. However, many of these products use fragrant synthetic chemical substitutes to dilute or replace the more expensive essential oil extracts. Don’t waste your money on products that aren’t effective.
